Nancy Pounds Chapaneri, 72, of Zachary, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was born on June 23, 1952, in Texarkana, Texas, and was adopted by Van Allen Pounds and Imogene “Holly” Hollingsworth Pounds.
Nancy earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and later pursued multiple teaching certifications from Southern University. She was a dedicated educator for 12 years, teaching students at Northwestern Middle and Northeast High School.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Nancy cherished her family deeply and was happiest spending time together. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Baton Rouge, where she contributed as a choir member, liturgist, and church elder. In her free time, Nancy was an avid reader and was never without a book in her hands. She was also quilter and created beautiful handmade quilts that were cherished by family and friends.
Nancy and her husband, "Kish," shared a love of travel and enjoyed many adventures over their 48 years of marriage. In retirement, they traveled internationally to destinations including India, China, Germany, France, Italy, England, the Caribbean, and most recently South America, where Nancy visited Machu Picchu. On quiet Sundays at home, Nancy could often be found making salsa and stuffing jalapeños to share with her family during the football game. Go Cowboys!
