Michael Lee Joiner, age 66, a resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, passed away on June 23, 2016. Michael was born in Hammond, Louisiana on February 16, 1950.
Michael graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1968 and went on to graduate from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1972 with a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry. Michael then married the love of his life, Kathryn on October 26, 1974.
He played football for Ponchatoula High and received a football scholarship from SLU. He retired from Georgia Gulf/Axial/Chemical Plant.
Michael was a devoted husband, who loved working with kids. He loved sports, especially soccer. He was also an avid fisherman. He coached soccer at McKinley High School when the soccer program first began. He worked with many kids and loved them dearly. He was especially devoted to his nieces and nephews. Michael was also known as the best brother in the world!
Michael is survived by his wife, Kathryn Joiner; his sister, Cindy Joiner Knight (Dennis) of Ponchatoula; his sister-in-law, Michelle Joiner of New Orleans; his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, Kelley Knight Fladmo (Brian), Courtney Knight Al-Hinai (Omar), Eric Pastor (Louise), Casimir Miller (Rebecca), Samantha Miller Lemoine (Keith), and Lana Courtney (Charlie); his great-nieces and nephews whom he was very close to, Tannar, Maddie, Lily, Steven, Emily and Camille; a special aunt, Nelda Henry; his Godchild, Jena Bordelon; his "adopted children," Greta Bordelon and Reggie Bordelon; his best friend, Jenny Gleason and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rosalie Lavigne Joiner and Luther "Sam" Joiner; and his brother, Ronald L. Joiner, who passed in 2008.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., beginning at 10:00 am until services at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
