Michael James Dickinson, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children at his home on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born in Morganza, Louisiana to Oralee Joseph Dickinson and Gladys Deaton Dickinson.
Michael was a man of many talents and hobbies. He filled his time gardening, hunting, fishing, painting, and completing projects for his kids and grandkids. Above all he loved spending time with his family.
Michael proudly served in the National Guard and then joined the Baton Rouge City Police Department (BRPD) in 1972. He also earned his Bachelor’s Degree in 1981 from Southeastern Louisiana University. He served in many different positions including the BRPD Burglary Unit, and a leader of the School Drug Task Force, Operation Take Down and the BRPD Narcotics Department before retiring. He then was a Section Leader for the Attorney General’s Office before retiring.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Debra LeBlanc, Stuart Dickinson and Jeffrey Dickinson.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Judy Richardson Dickinson; his children, Brian Dickinson and wife, Cara, Emily Delahoussaye and husband, Michael, and Denise Brown and husband Derick; his grandchildren, Emma Delahoussaye, Grace Delahoussaye, Ian Brown, Alexandra Dickinson, Abigail Brown, and Reid Delahoussaye; his siblings, O. J. Dickinson and wife, Charlotte, Virgus Dickinson and wife, Phyllis, Timmy Dickinson and wife, Nue, and Greg Dickinson and wife, Marcella; his sisters-in-law, Patti St. Romain and Elizabeth Dickinson; his brother-in-law, Mark LeBlanc; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the first visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. George Catholic Church 7808 St. George Drive in Baton Rouge on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at St. George Catholic Church Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Michael’s name to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
