Michael Glenn Baker, 71, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Clinton, LA, passed away on Saturday January 16, 2021. Michael graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University and owned a heating and air conditioning business. Mike had a lifelong passion for flying and became an Eastern Airlines Pilot followed by many flight adventures – most recently in his baron and cub. In early 2020 he completed a three-week humanitarian flight mission with RAM (Remote Area Medic) Volunteer Corps to bring airplane parts for repairs to remote areas in Guyana. His passion for aviation safety and education continued throughout his lifetime and in 2019 Mike was honored with the Wright Brothers “Master Pilot” Award for his 50 years of flying.
Mike was also a very active member of his community and made many lifelong friends as a past President of the Red Stick Kiwanis and a previous U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla Commander.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carol Franklin Baker, and two children Patrick Baker and wife Cassie of Denham Springs; Matthew Coxe and wife Cara of Denham Springs; two sisters: Becky Wilson and husband Stuart of Baton Rouge and Patti Smith and husband Darryl of San Antonio, Texas; seven grandchildren: Chloie Coxe, Byron Coxe, Abigail Coxe, Caroline Coxe, Ashlan Desoto, Hunter Desoto and Brody Brewer; two nieces Wendy Schiele of Houston and Stacey Metzgar of San Antonio and two nephews: Mark Wilson of New Orleans and Steven Smith of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents Shirley Nichols Baker and Glenn H. Baker.
Funeral services to celebrate his life and honor his memory will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Clinton on Monday January 25th at 10am conducted by Reverend Jeffrey Bayhi. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge.
