Metta Parr

September 23, 1925 — September 24, 2009

Our mother passed away on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Promise Hospital in Baton Rouge after a long battle with congestive heart failure. She was 84. She was born in New Orleans on Sept. 23, 1925, to Robert Edwards Bruns Jr. and Myrtle Wolverton Bruns. It was in New Orleans where she met the love of her life, LeRoy Parr, to whom she was married for 27 years. She was a longtime employee of the Credit Bureau of Baton Rouge. Following her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and became a member of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy; her parents; and a brother, Robert Edward Bruns III. She is survived by a sister, Jane Bruns Shivers; daughters, Christy Parr D'Armond and Patti Parr Seals; sons-in-law, Adrian D'Armond and Ray Seals; grandchildren, Lindy Smalling, Patrick Blackwell, Cara Oetjens and Madison Oetjens; and great-grandson, Jace Johnson. She was known as Nanny to her nieces, nephew, grandchildren and great-grandson, and many others who loved her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon. Interment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
