Merwyn Varnado

Merwyn Lamar Varnado, Sr. 85, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 16th at home. Merwyn is preceded in death by his parents Ronnie and Ruth Varnado. He is survived by his adored and beloved wife of 64 years Patricia Ann (Alexander) Varnado, daughter Julie Ruth (Varnado) Duet and husband Mitch of Baton Rouge, son Merwyn Lamar Varnado, Jr. of Durham, North Carolina, sister Laura Fussell of Covington and brother Ronnie Varnado Jr and Rosie of Texas, grandchildren Paul Duet and Lindsey (Duet) Elkins and husband Blake and great-grandchild Elkins who is on the way. After marrying Patsy, his high school sweetheart, they embarked on their first adventure by working for the FBI in Washington DC. They returned home once the stork surprised them in the Capitol City. Merwyn then went back to LSU to complete his undergraduate degree and later, through night school, his masters. He worked as a computer technician for many years for The Advocate Newspaper where he eventually retired.  He loved reading, history and later in life, painting but most of all he loved spending time with his family and planning trips and vacations. There was always an open road atlas on the table. At Merwyn’s request, a brief service of remembrance will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Monday, January 24, 2022, with visitation at 10:00 am and a memorial service at 11:00 am.
