Merlin Albert Cutrer went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 3, 2015, at home in the presence of his children.
He was born on March 7, 1930, to Myrtle P. Levigne and Shallie Albert Cutrer in Ponchatoula, LA. Merlin was married on June 18, 1949, in Woodville, MS, to Martha Jane Murray, his loving wife of 60 years.
Known fondly by all as "AL", he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Al was a retired millwright, a member and Past Master of Central Masonic Lodge #442, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Scottish Rite, as well as other Masonic organizations. He was an active supporter of the Central Lodge Dyslexia program and the Shriner's Hospital.
He is survived by: son, Alan Cutrer and wife Sue of Slaughter, LA; granddaughter, Allyson Cox and husband Ed Cox; great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Caden; grandson, Eric Cutrer and wife Allison; great-grandson Elijah; grandson, Chad Cutrer; daughter, Aleta Davis and husband Devoyal "Skeet" Davis of Mobile, AL; grandson, Wayne Davis; great-granddaughter, Erin; great-grandson, Dylan; granddaughter, Julie Davis Harris and husband Daniel Harris; granddaughter, Danielle; daughter, Teresa Weimer of Baton Rouge, LA; grandson, Jeremy Cutrer and wife Lauren; great-grandson, Cameron; great-granddaughter, Aubrey Claire; granddaughter, Laura Mistretta; great-grandson, Caleb Rackley; great-grandson, Logan Phillips; grandson, Michael Gallardo; grandson Brett Cutrer and wife Sheryl; great-grandson, Parker; son-n-Law, R. L. Slay of McComb, MS; grandson, Jason Slay and wife Jenessa; and great-grandson, Grayson. He is also survived by one brother, William Abbot "Billie" Metz and his wife Marlene.
Preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Martha Jane Murray Cutrer; one brother, Robert "Bobbie" Metz; and two daughters, Janice Cutrer Hendrix and Ruby Charlene Cutrer Slay.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the special attention and care given by the many staff members of the Baton Rouge General Hospital, and The Clarity Hospice staff at The Crossing, as well as the "At Home Staff."
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
Visiting hours will continue on Friday, November 6, 2015, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until services at 2:00 PM.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge, LA.
