Mavis Simmons

A resident of Baton Rouge and native of Derby, Miss., she died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Promise Hospital. She was 87 and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside service at Resthaven Gardens of Memory at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Survived by a daughter, Patricia Simmons Hofmeyer and husband Mark J. Hofmeyer; two sons, Donald Q. Simmons and wife Chong O. Simmons and Mark R. Simmons; two sisters, Emily Lou Clay, of Picayune, Miss., and Bura H. Boyd; brother, Peter I. and wife Eva M. Harvey; grandchildren, Heather S. Booth and husband Ryan S. Booth, Laurel Hofmeyer, Cristin Simmons and David J. Hofmeyer; and great-grandchild, Grace E. Booth. Preceded in death by her husband, Quinton A. Simmons; brother, Roy; and five sisters, Ira, Willie Mae, Melba, Wessie and Mary Jean. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society.
