Maureen Elizabeth Christensen, a beloved mother, passed away peacefully at home on August 14, 2024, surrounded by her family and her cherished dog, Binky. She was born on April 30, 1937, in Prestwick, Scotland. Maureen lived a life marked by her deep faith in God, her diligent work as a prayer warrior, and her unwavering passion for caring for others.
She is survived by her children, David Christensen (Toni) and Kirsten Christensen; Toni’s mother, Margaret Cardinal; brother-in-law, Robert Christensen; sister-in-law, Ethel Christensen; and many nieces and nephews.
Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Mary Gallacher; her husband, Roger Christensen; son, Martin “Marty” Christensen; and sisters, Agnes and Catherine (Sr. Mary Ita) Gallacher.
Maureen graduated from Leith General Hospital School of Nursing in Edinburgh, Scotland, and worked as a Registered Nurse and Midwife in Scotland.
In her personal life, Maureen was known for her profound spiritual commitment and her dedication to helping those around her. She became a full-time mother, focusing on raising her children with love and support, prayerfully mentoring them through life's challenges. Her family and children meant the world to her, and her selfless caring for others was a cornerstone of her life.
Maureen will be remembered for her compassion, warmth, and vibrant spirit. Her deep faith and selfless caring for others touched many lives, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, 15208 Hwy 73, Prairieville, LA 70769, on Monday August 26th at 10:00am.
Mom always asked her family and friends not to send her flowers when she is gone, instead preferring to enjoy them in life. Please, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Friends of the Animals Adoption House, 8476 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA, 70808, or St. John the Evangelist Food Pantry, 15208 LA-73, Prairieville, LA, 70769. In gratitude for her life, please consider performing a random act of kindness to someone to commemorate her giving spirit.
