A devout wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Maureen Cleary Arthur, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. and a resident of Baton Rouge for 46 years passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born March 13th, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to Daniel and Christine Cleary, the first of 3 daughters. Maureen was married to Ted Arthur, the love of her life, for 49 years and raised 5 children. In addition to her dedication to family, her Catholic faith was evident in her service to others as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Altar Society and Resurrection Choir. Maureen also served on many church committees doing whatever was needed or was asked of her. She was a Lay Missionary of Charity and did extensive volunteer work at the Women and Children’s Shelter at St. Agnes Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Arthur; parents, Daniel and Christine Cleary, son, Daniel Arthur, grandson, Alex Johnson and sister Sheila Krieger. Surviving children are Ellen McWilliams and husband Jeff, Susan DeMers and husband Floyd, Mary Johnson and husband Kell, Ted Arthur and wife Annette, daughter-in-law Peggy Arthur; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, her sister Eileen C. Cook and her sister-in-law Anne Rydell. Special thanks to Fidelis Care and Canon Hospice for their love and care. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 5th at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9am to 11am with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin a 11 am. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maureen's memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
