Matthew Liberty

Matthew Stephen Liberty, age 28, a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on December 18, 2017. Matthew was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska.
Matthew graduated from Parkview Baptist High School, class of 2007. He then attended Louisiana Tech University, Baton Rouge Community College, Louisiana State University, and Southeastern Louisiana University.
Matthew obtained the rank of Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America, and was inducted into The Order of the Arrow. He loved the outdoors and was an avid birdwatcher with an extensive knowledge of all types of birds from all over the country. Matthew was a lover of animals of all kinds. He worked extensively with feral cats, helping them get spayed and neutered, improving their quality of life.
Matthew was a very talented artist who had a wonderful sense of humor.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Jeff and Kathryn Alleman Liberty; his sister Amanda; the cats Sylvia, Chi, and Knuckles; his paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Liberty; his maternal grandfather, Samuel Alleman and his wife, Betti Alleman; his aunts and uncles, M. Kathy Liberty, Scott and Mary Liberty, Mike and Terri Liberty, Alden and Debbie Alleman, Chauvin and Tracy Alleman, Thomas and Jill Alleman, and numerous cousins and great aunts and uncles.
Matthew is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Linda Alleman; his paternal grandfather, Joseph Liberty; his beloved dogs, Baxter and Angel, and his beloved cats, Tigger, Smudge, Scapee, and Audrey.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home Saturday December 23, from 12 pm to 1 pm, until services at 1 pm.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness - Acadiana Chapter, PO Box 51903, Lafayette, LA 70505-1903, in memory of Matthew Stephen Liberty. The family is also in the process of establishing a scholarship fund in Matthew's name.
