Mary Shirley

December 4, 1931 — April 20, 2014

Mary Nettles Shirley, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was born in Tangipahoa, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA.

Mary earned a Masters Degree from Louisiana State University and retired as a guidance counselor from East Ascension High School. She was an original member of Bengal Bells and a member of TAF. Mary was a very generous and compassionate person, a talented cook, and a great gardener. She loved LSU sports, growing flowers, but most importantly spending time with and entertaining her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James H. Shirley daughter, Debbie Lacy and husband Rick two grandchildren, Anna and Alex Lacy sisters, Ethel Hyde, Janice Cutrer and husband Kenny and many nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt.
Preceded in death by her parents, Alton, Sr. and Sally McNabb Nettles brother, Alton Nettles, Jr. sisterinlaw, Darci Nettles and brotherinlaw, Huey Hyde.

Visiting will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 12:00 Noon, conducted by her brotherinlaw, Pastor Kenny Cutrer. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
