Mary Schoonmaker

Mary Elizabeth Schoonmaker, age 87, began her eternal life with her Lord and Savior on October 14, 2016.

Mary was a resident for 55 years of Schoonmaker Oaks on North River Road. She received her LPN at Baton Rouge General Nursing School but spent the majority of her life caring for her family and grandchildren. She loved antiques, and visiting Grand Isle, but her greatest passion was her family.

Mary is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 68 years, Calvin L. Schoonmaker; her daughters, Cindy Ruppenicker and Bridget Patin (Keith); her son, Calvin R. Schoonmaker (Janet); her grandchildren, Stacy and Shane Schoonmaker, Anna and Sean Hart, Chad Ruppenicker, Jenny and Marshall Speights, and Jake and Holley Patin; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Sam and Andi Speights, and John Robert Patin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Myrtle B. Bennett.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., from 8:30 AM until service at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Speights, Shane Schoonmaker, Chad Ruppenicker, Dave Ruppenicker Royland Wicker and Robert Daniel. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde Arnold, Larry McCaleb, Alvin Schaffer, Jr. and Mike Blanchard.

The family wishes to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Leanna, Rhonda, April, Utica, and Melissa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, 3772 North Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
