MARY MATHERNE PIKE "GRANNY"
Mary Matherne Pike, 87, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away on August 30, 2015.
Our precious Mother, who lived her life in service to countless people, is with Jesus now. She departed this world in peace and left a legacy of love behind.
Visitation at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, Wednesday night, September 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with visitation resuming at 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church presided by Rev. Michael Moroney and burial at Resthaven on Jefferson Highway.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Don Nijoka; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Richie and Muriel Pike, Phil and Debbie Pike, Craig and Teddie Pike, Steve Pike and Stephanie Skinner-Pike, and Rodney Pike. She left behind 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Glory Montz; and brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Jessie Matherne; and numerous relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Malvin Pike of 55 years; granddaughter, Amber Pike; great-grandson, Braden Babin; parents, Louis and Seraphine Martin Matherne; and siblings, Floyd, Claude, Ned, Alton, Joseph,Virginia Anne, Irene Keller, Dorothy "Dot" Roussel, and Florette "Flo" Nickens.
Pallbearers will be her five sons and one son-in-law.
Our loving "Granny" was well known for her homemade Christmas candies, elaborate wedding cakes, handmade jewelry and greeting cards, floral arrangements and china painting. She generously gave of herself by cooking, kissing, and wholeheartedly loving. She was an active volunteer at the schools we attended and served as PTA president for several terms and a member of Pelican Relic and Recovery metal detecting club.
The family would like to thank her long-term care givers, Lisa Rodney, Betty Lege, the wonderful staff at House of Grace and New Century Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to New Century Hospice or House of Grace in Denham Springs or Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area.
