A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary W. Oglesby entered the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, claiming the promise of John 3:16. She was born Dec. 8, 1927, to W.C. and Marie Williams in West Monroe. After a year at LSU, she married William A. Wasson, and moved to Texas, where she graduated from the University of Houston and taught school. After the death of her husband, she returned to Baton Rouge, earned a certificate of social welfare from LSU, and worked in child welfare. In 1958, she met and married her beloved William Oglesby, and devoted her life to him and to their three children. Survived by her husband of 50 years; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol O. and Rusty Milner, of St. Louis, and Ann O. and Michael Ault, of Houston; and son, John W. Oglesby and his wife, Rhonda, of Baton Rouge. She delighted in her grandchildren, Matthew Milner, of Ottumwa, Iowa, Melissa Wallis, of St. Louis, Stephen and Benton Ault, both of Houston, and Jennifer and William Oglesby, both of Baton Rouge; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Sydni Gilbers, Sophia Wallis, and Beth and James Milner. Also survived by a treasured sister-in-law, Mary Kathryn Williams. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kittie Shaw; brother, Clarke McRae Williams; and by William A. Wasson. She was past president of her beloved Chapter C of PEO, a member of the Wednesday Club, Women's Club and NSDAR. She had volunteered at Magnolia Mound, Woman's Hospital and her children's schools. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and active in the Fellowship Bible class, Intercessory Prayer Group and UMW. She was especially interested in Southeast Ministries where she had served since its beginning. She lived prayerfully and tried to show her faith by doing unto the least of these Matthew 25:40. She will be sadly missed by those she loved. Memorials to BUMC Community Ministries will be appreciated.
