Mary Louise Liston of Baton Rouge passed away on May 25, 2015 at The Crossing of Baton Rouge.
Mary Lou was born on November 16, 1920 in Topeka, Kansas, to Benjamin Perry Baker and Rowena Fessenden Baker. Mary Lou and Darrel were married on July 26, 1941 in Lawrence, Kansas. Their children are James Liston (Judy) of Venice, Florida, William Liston (Jane) of Oak Hill, Va., and Libby Roper (Russell) of Baton Rouge, La. Their grandchildren are Jonathan Liston (Joanna) of Nicholasville, Ky., Benjamin Liston of Virginia Beach, Va., Rachel Liston of Virginia Beach, Va., Benjamin Roper of San Diego, Ca., David Roper of Baton Rouge, Audrey Liston and fianc�½ Josh Willis of Montgomery, Al., and Jordan Dawson of Oak Hill, Va. Their great-grandchildren are Ransom and Jude Liston of Nicholasville, Ky.
Mary Lou graduated from the University of Kansas in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics and remained an avid fan of KU basketball until her death. She was a seventy-five year member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and the Grand Chapter of Kansas Order of the Eastern Star. She also served on the National Pan-Hellenic Council for Sigma Kappa. Mary Lou was a member of St. Andrew�½s United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge and Preston Hollow United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. She taught Sunday school and bible school at Preston Hollow and was a member of St Andrew�½s United Methodist Women. Mary Lou was also a substitute teacher at R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, Texas and was very involved in civic affairs wherever she lived. She also served as a den mother for her three sons in the Boy Scouts.
Mary Lou and Darrel enjoyed life to its fullest; whether it dancing in their home to stay warm in the cold Erie, Pennsylvania winters or enjoying the beach during summer vacations, they were always surrounded by friends and family. Mary Lou was quick with a smile and the sparkle in her eye revealed her fun-loving spirit. She is loved by so many and our lives are fuller because of the time that God shared her with us.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Darrel Sproat Liston; her son, Jonathan Darrel Liston; and brother, Grant Baker.
The family request that visiting hours be observed on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway from 5:00 pm until the time of services.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home, at 7:00 pm.
Interment will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
