Mary E. Knight passed away peacefully Friday morning, Oct. 8, 2010, at age 83. She was born June 9, 1927, in Natchez, Miss., to the late John P. Cobb Sr. and Mary Olive Montgomery Cobb. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene N. Red Knight and daughter, Karen E. Knight. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU. An avid lover of horses, she was active in showing and riding, especially Arabians. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca G. Knight, a son, Robert E. Knight and his wife, Tina, and two granddaughters, Lauren and Rachel, all of Baton Rouge. Other survivors include her brother, John P. Cobb, of Atlanta nephew, Charles R. Cobb, of Columbia, S.C. and niece, Elizabeth H. Cobb, of Solomons, Md. A graveside service will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory on Monday, Oct. 11, at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to an animal shelter.
