Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of one of his saints. Mary Anne Patton Johnson, age 82, passed away after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, on Thursday, April 21, 2016. She was born in Hartwood, Virginia, April 9, 1934 and has been a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana since 1977. Anne retired from Parkview Baptist Church where she faithfully served as secretary-assistant to Reverend Bob Anderson for 20 years. She loved competitive sports all her life and played basketball and softball in high school. Anne was an accomplished pitcher who often pitched no hitter games. She played softball for various church leagues until she was well into her 50's. Anne married Carl Johnson, a young Marine, in 1953, and they traveled this great country as she continued to serve in various churches in Maryland, Hawaii, North Carolina, California, Florida, and Arkansas.
Anne is survived by her loving, faithful husband of 63 years, Carl Olless Johnson; two children, William Carl Johnson and wife Elizabeth Ann of Metairie, Louisiana and Laura Anne Johnson and fiancé George Michael Hern of Hot Springs, Arkansas; four grandsons, D. Martin Steib and wife Jordan Hebert of New Orleans, Louisiana, Robert Charles Thirion, III, of Miami, Florida, Carl Jennings Thirion and wife Brittnie Marie of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Bror Emile Thirion of Conway, Arkansas; one great grandson, Noah Elliott Thirion; and one brother Paul Patton and wife Yvonne of Rappahannock Academy, Virginia; many nieces and nephews and a host of great friends.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents, William Webster Patton and Mamie Houghton Patton, her brothers Henry William Patton and wife Agnes Verburg Patton, Robert Mason Patton, Holmes Delano Patton, and nephew Bruce Robert Patton, all of Virginia.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Sunday, April 24 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, April 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The celebration of life service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary, Louisiana. A gathering of friends and family will follow at Grace Life Fellowship, 10210 Barringer Foreman Road, Baton Rouge at 2:30 p.m.
Pallbearers are Martin Steib, Robert Thirion, Carl Thirion, Bror Thirion, Bill Johnson, George Hern, Max Khonsari, and Greyson Fullbright.
