Mary Ann Burns Hsu, age 75, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Buffalo, NY, and moved to Baton Rouge to start a family and a career in nursing where she worked at the Baton Rouge General, Parkland Hospital, and Tau Center at OLOL .
She touched everyone she met with her love, spirituality and generosity. "Mrs. Mary" was the social glue for her extended family, friends, and community.
She is survived by her husband, Chris C. Hsu, who describes her as his moral compass, life partner, and champion as they raised their children together with Catholic principles. It will be very hard to live without her.
She is also survived by her children, Chris Hsu and his wife, Julie, Joe Hsu and his wife, Kassie, Susan and Kathy Hsu. Mary is also survived by her grandchildren, Maya, Emilia, Koen, Brynna, and Alena Hsu; her brother, Paul Burns and his wife, Eileen; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Father, Joseph Burns, MD; Mother, Gertrude Burns, RN; and her brothers, Joseph and Robert Burns.
Visiting hours will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA from 4-7 pm on Friday, April 14th. A Memorial service will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Baton Rouge on Saturday, April 15th at 10 am with visitation starting at 9 am. Traditional or Easter attire welcome and, in lieu of flowers, donate to the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, St Vincent de Paul or Ochsner Nephrology Department.
