Mary R. Hewitt “Betty”, age 92, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on May 16, 2023. Betty was born on July 13, 1930, and grew up in Zachary, LA, along with her six siblings. In 1946, she married the love of her life, Amos Hewitt Sr., and they were married for 60 years. They had three sons together, and Betty devoted her life to caring for them. Betty was a dedicated caretaker for her children for their entire lives.
As Betty and Amos were raising their family, they loved to take the boys to Branson, MO, for Bluegrass festivals. They would hook up their motorhome and have so much fun traveling and enjoying the music. The family also cheered on LSU together and liked to watch all their sporting events. Betty was a fan of things that were bright and blingy. She would do crafts and especially loved it when she was able to bedazzle something. Decorating for the fall season and Christmas holiday was also important to her.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Amos Hewitt Sr.; sons, Amos Hewitt Jr. “Butch” and Bruce Hewitt; parents, James and Clara Rogillio; sisters, Billie Alford, Kathleen Allen, and Meryal Mason; and brother, Herman Rogillio. She is survived by son, Randy Hewitt; sisters, Johnnie Forrest (John) and Virginia Becker, numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and neighbor, Dorethea Sterling; and constant companion, Angel.
