Mary Katherine Crawford, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully at 3:25 p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024, lovingly surrounded in prayer by her family. She was 16 years old. We will cherish her love of sunshine always.
Mary Kate attended Southdowns Pre-K School, Pediatric Health Choice, and was a homebound student of East Baton Rouge Parish. Her brilliant and energetic therapists, teachers, aides, nurses and doctors have loved her and enriched her life by teaching us how to care for her and by engaging her in activities, arts and craft projects, music and more. Mary Kate enjoyed going to the beach and especially loved floating gently in aqua therapy at Woman’s Center for Wellness. Her love of music was evident when her sister would play guitar and sing, and especially when she and her mother held Mary Kate and sung to her. She spent time just looking at her brother, listening to her brother’s voice and holding his hand.
Mary Kate is survived by her brother, Jack Crawford, her sister, Lily Jane Crawford, her mother, Susan Heard Crawford, her father Robert Jordy Crawford, her Godparents Martin O. Miller, III and Laura Crawford Lanier.
Mary Kate is also survived by her grandparents, Hayla Hinkley Heard, Daniel B. and Carolyn Heard as well as Robert Voorhies Crawford of New Orleans. She is also survived by Jim and Mary Altazan, who loved her as their own grandchild; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, including Chuck Hinkley, Jr and Josie DeGrusha of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Suzanne Jordy Crawford of New Orleans and Karen Gordon Crawford also of New Orleans.
Visitation will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart Avenue in Baton Rouge on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
