Mary Clark

February 3, 1935 — April 4, 2014

On February 3, 1935, Mary Geneva Spooney was born in Irwin County Georgia, to the union of Henry Mack Spooney and Ida Everett Spooney. On March 21 1953, she became the wife of Robert Lee Clark. This union was blessed with one child, Cassandra Beth. Mary, Robert, and Beth, resided in Douglas Georgia until they moved to DetroitHighland Park Michigan in 1966. In Michigan, Mary worked for Chrysler Trim as a seamstress. Mary was very smart and worked hard to obtain her GED in 1991 after her move to Detroit. Mary retired from Chrysler in July of 1990, and she and Robert moved back to Georgia in 1992. Mary remained in the Douglas and Fitzgerald area and became a fixture around the area, visiting WalMart, the senior center and her favorite fried chicken restaurant everyday. She was the historian and matriarch of her family and was known for her giving heart. Mary liked to crochet, bowl and her favorite hobby was gardening. In 2007, Mary relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to live with her daughter and soninlaw, Cassandra and Stanley. In 2011 Mary relocated to Our House For Respite in Plaquemine, Louisiana where she was dearly loved, pampered and cared for by Verly, Hamah, Renata, Ms. Jean, and the rest of the staff. Mary was feisty and strongwilled, and a handful right down to the end. Those remaining to mourn the loss of Mary include her daughter, Cassandra Beth Singletary soninlaw, Stanley Singletary granddaughters Stacey and Stephanie Singletary stepdaughter, Wylene Banks sisters, Octavia Mizell Thomas, Shirley Moffett Jerry brother Willie Spooney Laura and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Clark parents, Henry Mack and Ida Spooney sisters, Forestine, Betty, and Annie Ruth brothers, Carl, John David, Henry Mack, Harold, Elmore, and Michael. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge on Saturday, April 12, 2014from 11:30 am until service at 1 pm.
