Mr. Marvin Matherne Sr. died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Rockwall, Texas, after a long illness. Born in Gramercy, Mr. Matherne lived in Baton Rouge for most of his life. Preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Ewell and Lurline Schexnayder Matherne. Mr. Matherne graduated from Redemptorist High School and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of U.A. Local 198. He was a dedicated church volunteer and a member of the Pastoral Council and choir at St. Pius X and St. Patrick churches. Mr. Matherne is survived by his wife, Judith Lambert Matherne. His family includes his sons, Marvin Matherne Jr. and Scott Bartels; daughter, Megan Matherne Howie and husband Clint Howie; and cherished grandchildren, Kendall, Carter and Quinn Howie. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., on Tuesday, March 17, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jerry Martin. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the administration and staff of Odyssey Healthcare, Mobile and Dallas for their excellent care and support.
