Martha Grammer

November 1, 1932 — April 2, 2015

Martha Jane Ivey Grammer, age 82, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015.

She was born in Shreveport, LA, and grew up in Benton, LA. After graduation from Benton High School, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at LSU and was an active member of Chi Omega Sorority and a participant in student government. Afterwards, she taught First grade in the newly-built Melrose Elementary School for four years while simultaneously earning a Master's Degree. She was a volunteer in a number of community organizations and activities, including the Junior League of Baton Rouge, serving as President during the '73-'74 term. She has been a member of the University United Methodist Church for 64 years.

Martha Jane is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George Grammer, whom she first met when they were in elementary school in Benton. Her four children and their spouses are Walter Grammer and wife Cathy, Neal Grammer and wife Fern, Todd Grammer and wife Lanya, and Jane Ivey Grammer Pestovic and husband John Pestovic. Her 11 grandchildren are Katelin Grammer, Daniel Grammer, Caroline Grammer, Caroline Uffman Lagneaux, Rachel Grammer, Anne Claire Grammer, Madeline Uffman, Cole Uffman, William Grammer, Lauren Grammer, and Peyton Grammer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Clyde Ivey and Ruby Montgomery Ivey.

Visitation will be at 10 am until the 11 am memorial service on Wednesday, April 8, at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge. The memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Larry Miller and Rev. Carol Civils. A family burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA the following day.

The family would like to thank the staffs of St. James Place and Baton Rouge General Medical Center for their loving care of Martha Jane.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the University United Methodist Church.
