Martha Cutrer

She peacefully departed this Earth to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Ochsner Medical Center. She was encircled by her family after suffering several declining health issues for numerous years. She was born April 9, 1930, to Crockett Edward Murrary and Mathilda Tillie Elizabeth Phel Murrary in Los Fresnos, Texas. Merlin Albert Al Cutrer married Martha Jane Murray, his Yellow Rose of Texas, on June 18. 1949, in Woodville, Miss. Jane was a retired employee of Sears Roebuck Co. in Baton Rouge. She followed her passion for flowers by obtaining a degree in floral design and worked for Don Lynn's Florist in Zachary for many years. She is survived by her devoted and loving spouse of 60 years and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janice Cutrer Hendrix, grandson, Brett Cutrer, his wife, Sheryl, and great-grandson, Parker; Ruby Charlie Slay, her husband, Roy L Slay, grandson, Jason; Aleta Davis, her husband, Devoyal Skeet, grandson, Wayne, his wife, Paula, great-granddaughter, Erin, and great-grandson, Dylan, granddaughter, Julie, her husband, Daniel Harris, and granddaughter Oanlelle; Alan Cutrer, his wife, Sue, granddaughter, Allison, her husband, Ed Cox, great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Caden, grandsons, Eric Cutrer, his wife, Allie, grandson, Chad Cutrer; and Theresa Weimer, grandson, Jeremy Cutrer, his wife, Loren, great-grandson, Cameron, great-granddaughter, Aubrey Claire, granddaughter, Laura Mistretta, great-grandson, Caleb Rackley, great-granddaughter, Logan Phillips, grandson, Michael Gallardo. Additionally she is survived by brother-in-law, William Abbot Billie Metz and his wife, Marlene; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, George, Crockett, Harvey, Ruby, Louise, Ruth and Lucille; and brother-in-law, Robert Bobble Metz. She remained active in numerous organizations and was past worthy matron of Fairfields and Central Order of Eastern Star, receiving her First Prophecy in 1997 and most recently having received her Prophecy gold card. Additionally she served numerous years as mother adviser of Fairfields Order of Rainbow and as past president of Baton Rouge Chapter of Daughters of Oasis. Pallbearers will be Brett Cutrer, Eric Cutrer, Chad Cutrer, Jeremy Cutrer, Jason Slay and Wayne Davis. Daniel Harris, Ed Cox and Michael Gallardo will serve as alternate pallbearers. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt thanks to the many staff and members of Ochsner Medical Clinic and Hospital, Lane Regional Skilled Nursing Staff Unit and Superior Home Health. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Oct. 2, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Masonic Dyslexic Learning Fund Lodge 442, in care of Kenneth Blackwell, 13852 Brown Road, Baker, LA 70714.
