Martha Brumfield

Martha Lucille Pritchard Brumfield, 77, passed away at her home peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, after a long illness. She was a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Kentwood. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 52 years and 11 months, James Allen Brumfield a daughter, Brenda Brumfield Strickland and her husband, Douglas Strickland, and their children, Robert and Emma Strickland, of Atlanta a son, Dr. Brent Brumfield and wife Lana M. Brumfield and their three children, Brooks, Marshall and Lauren Brumfield, of Pueblo, Colo. a brother, E. Howard Pritchard and his wife, Connie Pritchard sistersinlaw, Jo Ann B. Sanches and Evesta B. Bell and husband Billy and several nieces, nephews and cousins, one that she had a special relationship with, Billie Jo Hutchinson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mattie Emma McElveen Pritchard, whom she loved dearly: father, Emmett Pritchard grandparents, William and Lillie Simmons McElveen and George and Gladys Dykes Pritchard. She attended LSU and was an executive secretary for Mutual of New York Insurance Co. for 33 years. Our family would like to thank the Broadmoor Baptist Church for their prayers and acts of kindness to us. Also, we wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for their professional, kind and loving care they gave our loved one, especially Leslie Kinney, Yvette Henry, Misty Fernea, Dette Stelly, Mona Marcum, Barry Lagg, Emma Smith and one special and caring, caregiver and friend, Debra Perkins, who helped us through two difficult years. Visitation at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Terry Ellis and the Rev. Barry Lagg. Private burial will follow at the East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Kentwood. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Broadmoor Baptist Church, Amedisys Hospice, St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or acharity of your choice .
