An electrical engineer with Calpin Corp. Carville Energy Center, he died at 4:46 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 43. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Aug. 1, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at Parkview Baptist Church, 11795 Jefferson Highway, on Saturday from 9 a.m. until religious service at the church at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Collin Wimberly. Graveside service at Bogue Chitto Baptist Church Cemetery, Mount Hermon, at 2 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Tommy Stogner. Survived by his wife, Rachel Craft Smith; parents, Donald and Barbara Smith, of Mount Hermon; daughter, Reagan N. Smith, 11; son, Kevin B. Smith, 9; brother, Don Smith Jr. and wife Cherrae, of Walker; father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Sherry Craft; sister-in-law, Georgia Craft, of Merryville; and very special nieces and nephews, Paige, Brandi and Don Paul Smith, and Matthew, Emily and Erin Bennett. Preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, C.B. and Garner Smith; and maternal grandparents, Dulin and Erna Burch. Pallbearers will be Shane Lowe, Cade Hay, Brad Soileau, Kenny Payne, John Pritchett and David Chaney. He was the 1983 co-valedictorian of Tara High School. He graduated from LSU in 1987 with a bachelor's in electrical engineering and with a master's in business administration in 2002. He was an Eagle Scout. Special thanks to his co-workers at Carville Energy Center for all of their support through Mark's four-year battle with brain cancer.
