Marion Frances Brinegar Melancon, a native of Columbia, NC, longtime resident of Baton Rouge and Lafayette, LA passed away on Saturday August 28, 2021, at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette at the age of 77. Marion graduated from Louisiana State School for the Deaf in 1963. She played a major role in the deaf community sharing her knowledge and helping others. She volunteered at the Lafayette Diocese Deaf Action Center interpreting mass for the deaf blind, participated in bingo and also taught many, her all-time favorite – crocheting! Marion was known to be a social butterfly. If she wasn’t crocheting for others, she was either traveling or spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Annette Pourciau, David “Davey” Pourciau and wife Shannon, and Donald “Baby Donnie” Pourciau, Jr., and wife Brittany; grandchildren, Mitchel Varisco, Chance LeBlanc, Joshua Gary, Ty Ammons, Cole Chapman, Celia Chapman, Brooks Chapman, Kayla McCann, Brelynn Miller, Donald “Trey” Pourciau, III, and Bryce Pourciau; 3 great-grandchildren, Connor, Jordyn, and Cam Gremillion; siblings, Debroah Perque and husband Bruce, Kenneth “Kenny” Brinegar and wife Ginger, and Billy Brinegar and wife Kim; father of her children and life long friend, Donald Pourciau, Sr.; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Marion Brinegar; husband, Darrell Melancon.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on Saturday, September 4, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
