Marion Rita (Bayhi) Dyess

Marion Rita (Bayhi) Dyess passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was born December 5, 1934, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in Jesuit Bend in Plaquemines Parish. She graduated from Belle Chasse High School in 1950 and began working as an administrative assistant at the Alvin Callendar Naval Base in Belle Chase the following year. She married the love of her life, Homer Dyess, in 1952. They relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1969, and continued her career as an administrative assistant in the personnel office of the US Post Office until her retirement in 1983.

Marion is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Homer Dyess; her son, Jason Dyess; her parents, Eustace and Ellen Bayhi; her sister, Lucille Bayhi Fortmayer; her brother, Glenn Bayhi; her son-in-law, Larry Michaud; and great-granddaughter Hazel Schmidt.

Marion is survived by her children, Norma Dyess Michaud, Victoria Dyess Lewis and her husband Rod Lewis, Scott Matthew Dyess and his wife Debbie Dyess, and Debra Dyess Fertitta. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Lauren Michaud Knotts and husband Corey Knotts, Armand Michaud and wife Katy Ryan Michaud, Ben Lewis and wife Mia Lewis, Jennifer Dyess, Andrew Dyess, Mattie Dyess, Lacey Dyess, Genna Schmidt and husband Ethan Schmidt, Lindsay Southwick Levine and husband John Levine, Michael Fertitta and wife Rosa Fertitta, and Emily Fertitta; great grandchildren, Cal Knotts, Cooper Knotts, Joseph Armand Michaud, Benjamin Ryan Michaud, Evelyn Jean Lewis, Koen Dyess, Julian Dyess, Sutton Dyess, Primrose McDonald, Vivian McDonald, Jude McDonald, Emersyn Schmidt, Margot Levine, and Mary Levine; and her sister-in-law, Dora Harberson.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist United Church.

She leaves behind a priceless legacy of selfless love for her family and many friends.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Fidelis House, King Richard, and the nurses and staff of Compassus Hospice Services.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70816, on Friday, November 10, 2023, beginning at 10:00am until the funeral service at 11:00am. Burial will immediately follow the funeral service in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
