Marilyn Bracy

Marilyn Peters Bracy, 80, of Baton Rouge died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.

Born October 19, 1937 in Hodge, LA to Isaac Blanchard Peters and Katherine Ann Burns, Marilyn grew up in Quitman, LA and graduated valedictorian from Quitman High School in 1955. She attended Louisiana College and then Louisiana Tech, graduating with a bachelor in education in 1959. She earned a master's degree in early childhood development from University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR in 1971.

She married Lewis Bracy of Little Rock, AR in 1960. They later divorced and remained friends. They had two children, Robin Bracy Marrero of Baton Rouge and Lewis Fletcher Bracy, Jr. of San Francisco.

For more than 40 years, she was an elementary school teacher. She loved her work with children and taught all elementary grades, primarily kindergarten. She retired from teaching in 1998, but continued to work in the classroom part time until 2017.

She is remembered for her warmth, humor, generosity, and for her unfailing love of family. She enjoyed books, music, cooking and was known for baking cakes for those she loved or bringing soup to a friend who was sick. More than anything, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, whom she adored and they her. She was always happy to put on a silly costume or plan a fun craft project with them. She loved her country and Louisiana passionately and avidly supported the LSU Tigers.

She is preceded in death by her father, Isaac; her mother, Katherine; and her stepmother, Fee Peters. Survivors include her daughter, Robin and son-in-law, Hugo Marrero; son, Lewis Bracy Jr.; grandsons Christian Alberto Marrero and Michael Lewis Marrero; sister, Barbara Peters LaBove and brother-in-law, Austin LaBove of Lake Charles; nieces Karalee LaBove Wolfe (Rickey), Chelsie LaBove Robles (Tim) and Lindsay LaBove Mattingly (Andrew).

Services honoring her life will take place on Friday, January 26, 2018 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge. Visitation: 9:00am - 11:00am. Service: 11:00am.
