Lulu went to be with Our Lord on Saturday May 1, 2021 at her home in Baton Rouge with her loving husband, Doyle Johnson, at her side.
She joined her loved ones in heaven including her parents, Vernon and Charlotte Long, her brothers Charles Long and Kent Long, her son Martin Timothy Abington, and her grandson Phillip Abington; her sisters-in-law Wendy Long and Sharon Long; and her brothers-in-law Burt Merchant and Edwin Wilkins.
She is survived by her husband Doyle Johnson and her step children, Karen and Andy Meadows, Mark and Kristen Johnson, and Lisa and Jim Lovewell; her children and their spouses, Thomas Richard Abington Jr, Todd and Vicki Abington, and Jayne and Todd Campanile; her grandchildren, Thomas (spouse Frannie) and Angelle Abington (spouse Rob), Todd, Crystal (spouse Stephen), Cameron Campanile, and Lauren Abington; and her great grand children Ameleigh and Hayden Manuel and Thomas Abington IV. She is also survived by her siblings, Sonny and Nancy Long, Charlotte Merchant, Larry and Janice Long, Jane Wilkins, Al and Diane Long, Ann and Jerry Wallace, Richard and Martha Long, and Bobby Long.
Special thanks to Dina Lejeune for all the loving support and help during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Hospice of Baton Rouge, Linda, Adriane, Vicki, and Arvi, and the staff at Baton Rouge General for helping us to care for her.
Pallbearers include her grandchildren, Drake, Zachary, Cameron, Thomas, Todd, and Crystal’s husband, Stephen. We will miss the weekends at the camp in Grand Isle, the trips to Disney, and the family gatherings at her house (along with her roast and rice and gravy).
She was an avid gardener, planting seeds spiritually and in the ground. She is probably already planning her flower garden in Heaven.
Her family will miss her tremendously and will celebrate her life along with her friends at Resthaven on Thursday, May 6th. Visitation will be from 8:30 until 10:30, a service at 10:30, followed by internment. Please join us in celebrating our love for MawMaw Lulu. (The service will be streamed by Resthaven for those unable to attend. The link will appear below this at 10:25 Thursday morning.)
