Marie L. Vicknair Sutton of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her nine children at 4:03 pm Friday, February 10, 2017 at the age of 87. Marie and her husband opened Sutton's Dry Cleaners in 1965. She was a hard worker, a great businesswoman and an eternal optimist.
Most of all, Marie's greatest joys in life came from her roles as a loving wife, mother of nine children, grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman M. "Billy" Sutton, Sr.; her parents, Alcide C. Vicknair, Sr. and Marie Louise Rome Vicknair; and a brother, Alcide C. Vicknair, Jr.
She was a member of St. George Catholic Church for over 50 years. She is survived by her nine children - seven daughters and their spouses, Kathy Delafield and Bryant, Brenda Tucker and Wayne, Debbie Bridges and Clive, Susan Bloodworth and Billy, Sandra Dykes and fiancé, Don Watts, Jr., Cindy Gauthier and Billy, and Michelle Plauche' and Gene; and two sons - Norman M. Sutton, Jr. and Jeanne, Michael Sutton and Amy. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren and 10 great-granchildren.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Stephen Brierre, Dr. Jose' Mendoza and our angels at Bridgeway Hospice especially Nurse Rebecca Horne; Always Best Care Senior Services and their staff Rhonda Swazer, Kera Pendarvis and especially Happiness Samuel, Mom's special caregiver who brought so much joy and love to our mother and our family during her final days.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will resume Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at St. George Catholic Church, 7808 St. George Dr., Baton Rouge, LA, 70809 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Entombment will immediately follow in the church mausoleum. Pallbearers will be her 9 grandsons. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the services in the Kleinpeter Activity Center.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George Catholic Church Building Fund or to the New Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital.
