Marie “Marcy” Lancaster Simoneaux passed away peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge on January 7, 2025 at the age of 85. She was married to the love of her life Frank Paul Simoneaux for 63 years.
Marcy is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Joseph Bradford Lancaster and Marie Olinde Lancaster; brother Joseph Bradford Lancaster, Jr.; and daughter, Mignonne Simoneaux.
She is survived by her beloved children, F. Paul Simoneaux (Marie), Michelle Quinn (Michael), Rainier Simoneaux, and Denis Simoneaux (Keisha); grandchildren, Elizabeth Ollre (Todd), Emily Dunlap, Camille Dunlap, and Isabelle Simoneaux; and three great-grandchildren.
Born in New Roads, Louisiana, she was crowned to reign as Queen Sugar in 1959 and represented Louisiana at events in Washington, D.C. and New York City. She attended LSU School of Music earning a degree with honors in Music Education in 1961. There, she met her husband, Frank, while he was attending LSU School of Law and the two began their family in Baton Rouge. Marcy became active in a number of civic organizations, most notably serving on the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors for 17 years. She was elected as President of the symphony in 1976, eventually serving two terms. In 2017, she received the Arts Leadership Award for her long service with the organization and for co-founding the Louisiana Youth Orchestra. In the early nineties, she created and led the St. Joseph Cathedral Organ Fund Committee to raise money for the design and installation of the church’s first ever pipe organ which was dedicated in 1993. Most of all she was an adored wife and mother who loved spending time with her family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Cathedral, 401 Main Street, Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM at the church. Interment will take place at Resthaven Gardens of Memory following the Mass.
