It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margery Curran Kimmel of Marietta, Georgia. Margery passed away on September 13, 2024, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 89. She was born in New York, NY, on March 26, 1935, daughter of the late Clifford and Francis Curran.
Margery had a passion for learning and teaching! A woman of many talents, Margery excelled in her educational pursuits, obtaining graduate degrees in Special Education and Biology; and undergraduate degrees in Education and Dietetics from esteemed institutions such as Georgia State University, Louisiana State University, and Michigan State University. Her professional journey saw her make a positive impact as a High School Biology and Special Education teacher, a Diabetes Educator, and a Registered Dietitian. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Margery was an active member of various clubs and organizations, including the Red Hat Society of Georgia, the American Association of Diabetes Educators, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Academy of Nutrition & Dieticians. She was also a devout member of Roswell United Methodist Church in Roswell Georgia.
Margery loved to grow things and serve others! When at home, you would find her in her garden getting her hands dirty nurturing her many plants and flowers and next door visiting neighbors. In her community, she served her church as a volunteer at pregnancy centers and her local government as a poll watcher. This epitomized her heart toward life and others. Margery loved her country and celebrating special occasions! Her patriotic spirit to pursue knowledge and celebrate all things American was evident to those who knew her in her reading, her travels to historic sites, and her many flag clothes and jewelry items she wore. She also loved the holidays, with Christmas and St. Patty’s Day holding special places in her heart. This was displayed in how she fostered family traditions and honored her Irish heritage as a legacy for following generations. Margery was creative and loved her family! She spent countless hours gift-making and crafting intricate cards for her children and grandchildren for every occasion. Margery’s kind heart also showed in her thoughtfulness to send the perfect care package and gift, spreading the love and joy she had to her family near and far. Margery was a social butterfly and a sports fan! She adored her Red Hat friends and meeting up with “the ladies”. She enjoyed high teas, luncheons and bunko nights. But more than that, she loved watching her LSU Tiger football, Michigan State Spartans basketball and rooting for her children’s and her grandchildren’s alma maters while wearing the appropriate sports gear and displaying the school colors on her car!
