Margaret “Kay” Franklin, 86, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was born on Thursday, September 3, 1936, and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from Muskogee Central High School in 1954. In 1958, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art from the University of Tulsa and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Art History from Louisiana State University in 1991. While completing her Master’s degree, she was allowed the opportunity to travel abroad, studying art in France and Italy. On August 31, 1956, Kay married the love of her life, B.G., and their union was blessed with two children, Brooks G. Franklin III and Bryan K. Franklin. Kay lovingly raised her two children and focused on her passion for the arts, which eventually led her to teaching piano to children for many years.
In her free time, Kay enjoyed painting, sewing, playing piano, cooking, and entertaining for friends and family. She was most interested in the impressionist and expressionist style of art, and she spent many hours listening to some of her favorite classical pianists. Kay even had a line of handmade clothing, “Cricket”, which she named after her beloved pet poodle. She and B.G. loved to travel together, in their RV or with their church elder hostel group. They saw, painted, and photographed many beautiful scenes in Alaska, Canada, California Wine Country, the Gulf South, and several countries in Europe. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1973, Kay and B.G. joined Broadmoor Methodist Church, where she actively participated in their adult Sunday School.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Brooks G. Franklin, Jr. “B.G.”, her parents, Elmo and Verbia Pfrimmer; brother Thomas Rodney Pfrimmer, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her sons, Brooks G. Franklin III (Maggie), and Bryan K. Franklin (Amy); sister-in-law Patricia Bradshaw (Gary); 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and the remaining members of the “Fab Four” Kappa Delta sorority sisters, Shirlee Walker, Joanne Saunders, and Francis Mitchell.
