Margaret Chiquelin

July 2, 1925 — April 9, 2011

Margaret Boudreaux Chiquelin passed away peacefully with a smile on her face and all her children at her side while listening to Glenn Miller swing music on the radio and watching the Masters golf tournament on television Saturday, April 9, 2011. Born July 2, 1925, in Lafayette to Isabel and Rene T. Boudreaux, Margaret was an honor student at Lafayette High and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. After graduation, she became an executive secretary for Sun Oil, and married Bill Chiquelin. Margaret and Bill remained happily married for 28 years until his death in 1977. As a wonderful mother, she raised three children, Bill, David and Jill, with love and care. She was known as Mom because she was more than a mother to her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Her smile and bright personality brought sunlight into the lives of all that she came in contact with, making lasting impressions that will never be forgotten. Nicknamed Mugs, she loved music and dancing, especially big band swing music, and could really cut a rug. With her husband Bill, a Navy aviator, she made every house a home. Margaret lived a vibrant, full life, traveling across the country with her family in motor homes, enjoying Gods creations, but always ready to return home. Her interests included golf, square dancing, watching LSU, Navy and Saints football, and visiting with people. A great cook, she had many requests for her rice, chicken stew, roasts, hand painted homemade Christmas cookies and couchcouch among other foods. With her husband in the Navy, and both her sons graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Margaret obviously loved red, white and blue along with Navy blue and gold. Quite talented, Margaret was fluent in French and did charcoal drawings, sewing, shadowboxes and detailed crossstitch. She was a president of the Shenandoah Country Club Womens Golf Association, a longtime active parishioner of St. Lukes Episcopal Church, a member of the Broadmoor Body Benders exercise group and the exclusive Hole In One golf club. A fullpage article in The Advocate once featured Margaret, her mother, Isabel, and her daughter Jill three generations. Despite her life full of activities, Margaret always had time for her family and friends. Not only were people in her thoughts and prayers, but she was known as the card lady for the many touching cards she would send. A resident of the Lakewood Quarters Retirement Community, she wanted to express her thanks to the entire staff for their loving thoughtful care through her final years. Margaret is survived by her sons, Bill Chiquelin, of Knoxville, Tenn., and David Chiquelin and wife Elena, of Houston daughter, Jill Lee and husband Martin, of Baton Rouge grandchildren, B.J., Christa and Randy Chiquelin, Lynda and Elizabeth Chiquelin, and Taylor and Colby Lee. She had one great grandchild, Brett Chiquelin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Chiquelin. They are now together again, walking the golden road with the Lord. She was also preceded by a brother, R.T. Boudreaux Jr. and her parents. Visitation at St. Lukes Episcopal Church on Goodwood Boulevard will be Monday, April 11, from noon until service at 1 pm. Interment will be next to her husband at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers are William Chiquelin, David Chiquelin, Marty Lee, Rick Chiquelin, Randall Chiquelin, William Chiquelin II, Taylor Lee and Colby Lee.
