Mardel Carmellia Cecilia Bechtel Williams (Mrs. Mardel as she was affectionately called) a longtime resident of Baton Rouge went to meet our Lord and Savior on December 6, 2015. A native of New Orleans, she was born March 22, 1931.
Mrs. Mardel graduated with a degree from a local New Orleans Business College and married her beloved Robert "Grady" Williams, Jr. when she was 25. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her four children while affording to be a stay at home mom and (as she would say) playing in the mud. She loved gardening which showed in her beautifully landscaped yard. Mrs. Mardel was a member of the Bonaire' Garden Club, Supper Club, Bridge Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 490 serving a couple of terms as Ladies Auxiliary president. She was an avid LSU fan rooting for "our boys" as she would call the tigers. Whooping and hollering at the TV and telling us all what the next plays were going to be such as a fumble or interception as if she had ESP. Mrs. Mardel was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for more than 50 years where she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Cafeteria server and member of the CFM (Catholic Family Ministries).
Preceded in death by her parents, Edwin (Eddie) August Bechtel and Stella Rando Bechtel, both of New Orleans; sister, June Rita Bechtel Kurz, also of New Orleans; and husband, Robert "Grady" Williams Jr.
Mrs. Mardel is survived by her daughter, Keiley Anne Williams Well; son in law, Bret Arthur Well; daughter, Karen Cecilia Williams; son, Keith Michael Grady Williams; fiancé', Michelle Manuel; granddaughter, Megan Raquel Williams Pickett; grandson in law, Michael Becnel Pickett, Jr.; great-grandson, Michael (Mikie) Becnel Pickett, III; great-granddaughter, Abigail Rose Pickett; grandson, Andrew Grady Williams; great-granddaughter, Kinsley Adeline Williams and son Kevin Joseph Williams; daughter in law, Katherine (Kathy) Wascom; granddaughter, Rebecca (Becca) Lynn Williams; great-grandson, Antonio (Tony) Alexander Carrillo; grandson, Matthew Joseph Williams; and granddaughter, Katelyn (KK) Nicole Williams.
