Our dearest Mother, Madelyn, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Madelyn was born in Galveston, Texas on April 16, 1928 to parents Albert and Madge Priesmuth, whom she loved dearly. She was a 1945 Graduate of Dominican High School in Galveston, Texas where she enjoyed many friendships maintained throughout her life. She attended the University of Southern California for two incredible years and received her Undergraduate degree in Education and a Masters in Counseling from LSU.
Our Mother was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Maples, sister, Nina Beveridge and brother August Stauffacher. She leaves behind her 4 children Terry Maples, Gary and wife Valerie Maples, Kerry Maples, Nina and husband Aaron Austin. She is also survived by her beautiful granddaugthers, Jaime DeWeese Katie Maples Amanda Duphrene, Michele Bowman Kelly Maples Jacie Maples Rebecca Maples Abby Austin her grandsons, Adam Maples and Alex Austin her great grandchildren, Bailey Duphrene Calvin Bowman Ava Duphrene Ashton Duphrene her cousin Albert Cusick many nieces and nephews and especially Jerry and wife Kathleen Galbraith, Wanda Yates and Robert Stauffacher and the many dear friends, each of whom will forever cherish their own memories of so much laughter with this amazing women.
She led an incredible funfilled and adventurous life. Her lifes highlights included her child rearing days in Gonzales with the fabulous Rome Street families, the Daigles the Sheets the Polzins the Bergs the Wileys and the Herigs where it was a fun challenge trying to keep all the kids in line a move to Australia with the fun loving Aussies and the extraordinary Kaiser families the Cocodrie camp days with the super Sportsmans Paradise crew the Prairieville Elementary School with fun talented friends the many family vacations in Florida with all of her children and grandchildren visiting her daughter, son in law and grandchildren in Santa Barbara traveling with Terry on his business trips to Europe. She loved her morning laughter with Kerry over the political news and felt blessed for all the many ways Gary helped to enhance her life. She will, forever, be beloved for her thoughtful nature, wisdom and great humor.
She wishes for her family and friends to love and honor each other always, and laugh often along this beautiful path called life. The visitation and funeral service will be held at the Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, Monday, May 19th from 9:00 am until the service begins at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family wishes to thank the St. James Wellness Center and the Crossings hospice staff for the loving care given to our Mother.
