Former long-time Baton Rouge resident Marvin Glenn Bennett, 76, died October 9, 2009 in Boston, Massachusetts, of heart failure related to a long-term heart illness. A graveside remembrance in his honor will be held on Saturday, October 17, 1:00 p.m., at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge. Mr. Glenn was born March 4, 1933, in Anacoco, La., to Jem and Rosalie Dillard Bennett. He graduated from Lake Charles High School in 1951 and shortly thereafter joined the US Navy. While stationed at the Pensacola Florida Naval Air Station he met Bettie Jean Long of Milton, Fla., and they married on February 18, 1955. Over the next few years, Glenn and Bettie had 4 children together. In the early 1960s, the family moved to Baton Rouge, and in the early 1970s, Glenn launched a business with Mr. Larry Gehring. Glenns and Larrys partnership was successful in the Baton Rouge area for many years. In 1981, his wife Bettie was killed in an automobile accident. Glenn then married Della Griffin Henderson of Denham Springs, La. Upon retirement, Glenn and Della relocated to New Hampshire, and enjoyed an idyllic life in Wolfeboro on the shores of Lake Winnipesauke, until Dellas untimely death from lung cancer in 2004. In recent years, Glenn has been actively involved in his childrens and step-childrens lives, while remaining involved in business and investing. Glenn is survived by his children, Rhonda Moore and husband Matt of Fresno, Calif., Cheryl Crifasi of Little Rock, Ark., Stephen of Merrimack, N.H. and wife Linda Wolf, and Michael of Salt Lake City, Utah; and by his step-children Melissa Henderson Johnson and husband John of Nashville, Tenn., and Jon Henderson of San Diego, Calif. He also leaves to cherish his memory his sister-in-law, Lucy Long Updegraff and her husband Ray of Pensacola, Fla., beloved nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, Nicholas, and Grace Crifasi; Leelou Bennett Wisemyn, Glenn, Mary Lynn, James, Elisabeth, and Faith Bennett; Nathan, Erin, and Joseph Bennett; and Jared Johnson. Glenn never met a stranger, loved joking with family and friends, and was known by all who met him to be generous, kind-hearted, and humorous. He will sorely missed as an inspiration to us all. Donations in Glenns memory can be made to the American Red Cross, Louisiana Capital Area Chapter, 4655 Sherwood Common Blvd., Baton Rouge, La., 70816.
