Lynn Wayne Hernandez, a native of Baton Rouge, LA and a resident of Slaughter, LA, left this life while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the age of 85.
Lynn was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loyal brother. He was giving, a role model to many with a kind heart and soul that welcomed all to his home. He is a 1956 graduate of Baker High School, served as team captain of the football team, and was inducted into the Baker Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Lynn would go on to play football at the University of Southwest Louisiana University and earned a degree in Health and Physical Education in 1962. He first coached and taught school in Kissimmee, Florida before returning home to Erath High School, where he left the profession and joined Wilson’s Wholesale Distributors, where he retired as Sr. VP of Merchandising. In retirement, he became the owner and operator of Sullivans Hardware. Lynn enjoyed most being with his family, his farm, his animals, fishing, and an occasional golf game with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janell Hernandez; four children, Gwen Chauvin (Leonard), Donna Louviere (Kevin), Susan Hernandez, and Todd Hernandez (Shannon); seven grandchildren Ashly Singletary (Phil), Tre Chauvin (Gina), Celeste Clement (Matt), Ben Hernandez (Ashley), Brant Hernandez (Erin), Julia Grace Hernandez, and Brady Hernandez; eight great-grandchildren, Lola, Royce, Mallie Ann, Tate, Hudd, Adele, Aimée, Carson, John Todd, and Lennie Jeanne; siblings, Darrell Beard, Kay Hustmuyre (Walter), Chad Beard, Mark Hernandez, and Cynthia Durr.
He was preceded in death by his father, Linden P. Hernandez, Jr. and mother, Eunice Louise Beard; and son-in-law, Charles Wesley Jones.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. until Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers are Tre Chauvin, Ben Hernandez, Brant Hernandez, Brady Hernandez, Phil Singletary, and Matt Clement. Honorary pallbearers are his great-grandchildren.
