Lyle "Scooter" Johnson, 64, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, died on June 14, 2018, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Leatrice Johnson, brothers, Floyd, Jr., Vernet Johnson, and niece, Brenda Johnson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pamela Aucoin Johnson, two sons and their wives, Matt and Shelly Johnson, and Tim and Nicole Johnson, one brother and his wife, Jim and Rebekah Johnson, and four grandchildren whom he adored, Hailey, Alyssa, Levi, and Ryleigh Johnson, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He will be missed by all. Lyle graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and then joined the United States Army. He served one tour in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he worked for the telephone company for several years, then the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. He then joined the Baton Rouge Police Department where he received numerous awards and retired as a Sergeant. He is a member of the Baton Rouge Union of Police Local 237, Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, and VFW. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing with his dogs, LSU Basketball, camping, keeping up with friends through social media, but most of all being with family and friends, especially with his beloved grandchildren. Pallbearers will be his Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will by Don Stone and Tommy Dewey. Since Lyle carried them for so long, he requested that they carry him for once.
The Family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at OLOL, especially Dr. Brent Allain, Dr. John Amadon, Glen Landry, Emily, Shelby, Justin and Chris.
Services will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home with visitation on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 AM, with services and burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).
