Lydia “Opal” Charrier Newman, previous owner of Hooper Ace Hardware and Newman Home Center, passed from this life on Monday, January 3, 2022. Opal, a resident of Baton Rouge, was 81. She was born July 29, 1940 in Kleinwood, LA. Her Home-Going Celebration will be held at The First Pentecostal Church, 2828 Jones Creek Rd, Baton Rouge 70816, 2:00 pm Thursday, Jan 6, 2022, with Visitation from 11 - 2 for friends and family. Interment will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory following the celebration of life.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (Frank) Newman and survived by her three children - George (Joann) Newman, Eliska (Steve) Harkins, and Matthew (Tonya) Newman; eight grandchildren - Charrier (Josh) Hancock, Walker Harkins, Madison Newman, Aubrey (Cheyenne) Newman, Dakota (Cullen) Haymon, Noelie Harkins, Abigail Harkins, George L Newman and three beloved great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Yvonne Charrier, Joan (Roger) Skluzacek, Wanda (Rick) Wyser; two brothers, John (Jean) Charrier, Sr. and Charles (Donna) Charrier and a cherished host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Opal has been a faithful member of The Pentecostal Church, Baton Rouge, LA for over 50 years. Her love for the Lord and belief in His ability to help mankind was very strong. If you were blessed to know her, there is a good chance she has prayed a special prayer for you and yours.
