Luke Oliver Legendre died on July 8, 2017 at at his home surrounded by his family. He was 97. He was a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School. He was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge where he worked for Kaiser Aluminum for many years. He was an avid fan of LSU sports especially LSU baseball. His favorite pastimes were bowling and golfing. As a member of the Senior Olympics, he bowled well into his eighties winning numerous medals. A lifelong Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Mercy until his health prevented him from going. He still watched the Mass on television, and received communion at home regularly. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Grace Rita Gonzales Legendre; a daughter, Elizabeth Rita (Betsy) Legendre Williams and her husband Kenneth Ray (Ken) Williams; a granddaughter, Katherine Rita (Katie) Williams Lee and her husband Michael Glenn Lee; a grandson, Brett Houston Williams, and a great grandson, Austin Michael Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke Oliver Legendre, Sr. and Katherine McGraw Legendre; a brother Robert Legendre, and a sister who died in childhood. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic church on Thursday, July 13 from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 conducted by Father Nutan Minj and Deacon Richard Grant. Inurnment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Columbarium will be private. The family wishes to thank his special caregivers Linda, Sarah, the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, and the cardiac staff at The Baton Rouge General Regional Medical Center, Bluebonnet. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Traditions for Tomorrow Campaign, 445 Marquette Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70806 or a charity of your choice.
