Lucille Kenney Johnson, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away in her home on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born to Mr. Clement Alden Kenney and Mrs. Zoe Wray Kenney of Red Cross, Louisiana, on September 29, 1936. Lucille had a passion for learning and valued education. She received her undergraduate degree at Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, now University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She received her three master’s degrees from Louisiana State University. Lucille began her teaching career with the opening of Lanier Elementary School in 1958 and would later teach at Tanglewood Elementary in Central Louisiana. After furthering her studies, she became principal of Forest Heights Elementary and Baker Heights Elementary in Baton Rouge where she retired in 2000.

She was member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and The Altar Guild of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church.

Lucille was a loving matriarch who adored spending time with her family and especially loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and enjoyed eating at Mike Anderson’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix H. Johnson, Jr.; parents, Clement Alden and Zoe Wray Kenney; siblings, John Wray Kenney and Patrick Alden Kenney; grandson, Tyler Alden Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jess Jones.

She is survived by her children, Tracy Alden Johnson (Teri), Gordon Wray Johnson (Angie); grandchildren, Brandon O'Neal, Heather Johnson Lofton(Tommy), Brooke Johnson Petty (Sean), Meghan Johnson Vandal (Matthew), Jacob Andrew Johnson; great-grandchildren, Connor O'Neal, Nolan Tyler O'Neal, Beau Petty, Brynn Petty, Tripp Lofton, and Aldyn Grace Lofton; sisters, Lessie Kenney Jones; sister-in-law, Louise Kenney; and nephews and nieces, Robert Kenney (Kay)-Mark Kenney (Hannah), Jeanne Kenney, Yvonne Butler (Robert), Warren Butler, Emma Butler, Gregory Jones(Jeanne)-Zachary Jones(Aimee), Douglas Jones, Matthew Jones, Stephen Kenney, Michael Kenney (Melissa)-Kelsey Kenney, C. Ross Kenney, Brian Kenney (Debbie).

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue take on Monday, August 5, 2024, at St. Margaret Episcopal Church, 12663 Perkins Rd. Baton Rouge, LA 70810, from 12:30 p.m. until Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Casey Carlisle, Dr. Joe Deumite, Dr. Robert Territo, Dr. Robert Easton, and staff of BR General Bluebonnet and Dan Rodney, Scott Terry, Rodney Magee, Jeff Bernard her neighbors who cared for her like their own mothers.
