Loyd A. Murphy, 78, a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. A native of Woodruff County, Arkansas and resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Loyd proudly served in the United States Army, spending 18 months in Guam and was called a short time later to serve during the Berlin Crisis. He supervised the development, construction and operation of Tiger Shipyard in Port Allen, LA. In 1992, the company honored him by naming a 145 ft. Twin Screw Towboat the Loyd Murphy.
Loyd is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Claudia Joy Murphy two daughters and sonsinlaw, Cindy and Jed Sachse, and Robin and Randall Waller son and daughterinlaw, Darryl and Tammy Murphy three grandchildren, Justin Sachse and wife Brittany, Murphy Sachse, and Alex Waller one greatgrandson, Justin Sachse, Jr. sister, Marie Mauldin brother, Wade Murphy and wife Debbie brotherinlaw, T.J. and wife Maggie Campbell and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Charley A. and Estelle H. Murphy four sisters, Hope Jones, Oma King, Ann Lott, and Joan Gysin and brother, Charles Kenneth Murphy.
Visiting will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 11:00 am until service at 2:00 pm, conducted by Pastor Richard Holland. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
