Louise Ferrara

November 9, 1928 — November 1, 2007

Louise Ferrara, a native of Avondale and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at American Legion Hospital in Jennings. She was 78. She was a former employee of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She had been honored by the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board for her many hours of service in the I Care program, and was credited with the planning and distribution of I Care bookmarks to promote the program. She is survived by her twin brother, Louis F. Gaudet Jr. and his wife, Jeanette of Jennings; sisters, Rosemary Champagne of Baton Rouge, Doris Hennan of Pearland, Texas, and Gloria Smith of New Orleans; and numerous nieces and nephews, including godchildren Patrice Lang of Natchitoches, Nona Herrera of Friendswood, Texas, and Sharon Meyer, M.D., of New Orleans. She and her husband were very close to family and friends. Narcille Narky Ferrara and Louise were friends before they met and married brothers Dominick and Joe, thus becoming sisters-in-law and forming a greater bond. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nora LeBlanc Gaudet and Louis Fredrick Gaudet Sr.; and her beloved husband, Joseph Charles Ferrara. In May 2007, Louise moved to Jennings, residing at the Jeff Davis Living Center. Her family greatly appreciates the care given to her by Dr. Patrick Griffith and the staff the center. A special thanks to Marlene Broussard, who has been a very dependable and compassionate sitter. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Friday, Nov. 2, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until religious service at 2 p.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to The Greater Baton Rouge Federation of Churches and Synagogues, 3112 Convention St., Baton Rouge, LA 70806, who are interfaith givers, or to a favorite charity.
