Louis Clarence Furrate, 92, a resident of Baton Rouge, died peacefully at his home Friday, Oct. 21, 2011. He was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Baton Rouge, where he resided for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II as an airplane mechanic. He returned to Baton Rouge after the war and worked for Ethyl Corp. He later purchased the Town Talk and Ranchero restaurants and worked there until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church where he served as usher and longtime adorer. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Cuba Lee Harrell Furrate daughter, Monica Furrate Callier and husband Greg granddaughter, Laurie Wheeler and husband Chris two greatgrandsons, Zachary and Blake Ochoa brother, Francis Furrate and special friend, Gurdon Camus. Preceded in death by his parents, James Emile and Ursula Cassano Furrate sister, Anna Marie Greaud and brother, Lionel Furrate. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Miles Walsh, celebrant. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Arrangements by Resthaven Funeral Home.
