Louis, a native and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at age 82. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lena and Vito his 10 brothers and sisters, and his soninlaw, J.B. Smith. He worked as a sales manager and held leadership roles, including president, in the Traffic Club of Baton Rouge. Louis lived his life in service to God, family and country. A devoted Catholic, he served St. Alphonsus Church as part of the Ushers Society and Mens Club for many years. He was a sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. At age 23, he married Frances, and for the next 59 years remained a dedicated and loving husband. Together with Frances, he raised seven children. He is survived by Frances their children and childrens spouses, Louis Joseph Calamia Jr., Cynthia and Gary Aucoin, Linda Smith, Beth and George Brent Orillion, Karen and Donald Russell, Mike and Vickie Calamia, and Keith and Diana Calamia their 23 grandchildren and their 11 greatgrandchildren. Louis will be remembered by his family and friends for his warmth and gentle kindness, his roomfilling laughter and smile, and his position as the patriarch of a family too numerous to list here, but for whom each member held a special place in his heart, and he, in theirs. Visiting will be at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church Thursday, Aug. 25, from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Special thanks to Hospice Compassus for their love and care and to Cliff Ancelet, whom Louis welcomed into the family as a fourth son.
