Rev. L.E. "Delge" Delgehausen

Having relied and trusted in God’s infinite grace, we share the news that Pastor Delge joined the Church Triumphant on Friday, March 15, 2024.

Loren E. Delgehausen was born April 5, 1935, and grew up on a farm in rural Shible Township, Swift County, Appleton Minnesota.   He was a graduate of Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota, 1955, and Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, 1960.  He received a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, 1983, where he was also an Instructor of Speech Communication and Philosophy of Religion.  He was ordained into the ministry of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod on August 14, 1960, and served for 43 years.

He served his country for 33 years as a Chaplain in the United States Army Reserve, attaining the rank of Colonel and completed his career as Command Chaplain for the 377^th TAACOM in New Orleans, Louisiana.  His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the St. Martin of Tours Bronze Medal for service to church and country, and the Servus Ecclesiae Christi Award from his seminary alma mater.  

He enjoyed amateur archaeology with Jan, working with the University of Alabama Natural History Museum for many years, loved to travel, adored their rescue dogs, and was an avid fan of LSU.  His favorite hobby was collecting stamps of the Unites States and Ireland.  He will best be remembered for his ability to tell a great story, usually with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Hughes Delgehausen, son Tim Delgehausen, daughter Becca Reilly (Mitch), grandson’s Brett Hebert and Sam Reilly (Alex), great-granddaughter’s Lillian Opal and Laila Jade, sister Marlys Gross, brothers Roy and David (Lory) Delgehausen; and many nieces and nephews.

The Service of Christian Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home will be private. A memorial service celebrating Christian Life and Hope will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Friday, March 22^nd, 2024 at 6:30PM.  Reception to follow.
