Lois Speeg

April 8, 1922 — February 23, 2016

Lois Gonzales Speeg, loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at the age of 93. She was born on April 8, 1922, in White Castle, LA, and was a long-time resident of Baton Rouge.

Lois was known for her impeccable style, which she developed as a buyer for Bart-Well, Inc., where she was employed for over 20 years, and in retail sales at Ann Murphy's. She enjoyed growing flowers, particularly roses, and committed many hours of service over 37 years to the Ladies Altar Guild of St. Isidore Catholic Church, where she was a member for almost 50 years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was an excellent cook and mastered cooking all the wild game trophies that our father presented to her. Always willing to cook or bake for church, neighbors, friends and family in a time of need was truly her forte. Her unconditional love and dedication to her family was unwavering and she valued family gatherings above all else, especially when with her husband to whom she was married for 32 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband John Kenneth Speeg; parents Antoine and Jeanne Clouatre Gonzales; sisters Adele Gonzales Miley, Emma Gonzales Medine, Jeanette Gonzales Dugas, Beatrice Gonzales, and Una Gonzales; and a brother Eddie Gonzales.

She is survived by a sister, Jean Gonzales Loar; her children Ann Speeg Brent of Baton Rouge, LA, JK Speeg, Jr. (Claire) of Pride, LA, Terry Speeg Talley (Vince) of Zachary, LA, and Wayne Speeg (Jenny) of Arlington, TX; grandchildren Autumn Boyd Miller (Michael), Gregory Boyd (Caitlin), Jim Brent, Ron and Luke Adams, Lauren Speeg Cranford (Tanner), Amanda, Philip, Olivia, Jake, and Halli Speeg, and Lexy and Lyndi Walters; and great-grandchildren Anna Claire Ricks-Boyd, Sailor and Greyson Miller, Gabe Pourciau, and Liam Cranford.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Lois' caregivers, especially Bea Gransberry who provided years of excellent care of our Mama as well as love and support ; Berdia Coleman and the staff of Home Instead; Amber, Margie, DeLissa & Peggy and STAT Home Health; Sarah & Kyle for the wonderful attention and care given to our loved one. We would also like thank Dr. Stephen Speeg for his dedicated love and service to the family, and Dr. Gerald J. Calegan, II, for their excellent care and guidance.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, with a Rosary recitation at 6 PM, and on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, from 9:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at St. Isidore Catholic Church at 5657 Thomas Road, Baker, at 11:00 AM.
